Amy Fulbright is the founder and CEO of Amy's Ventures in IT LLC. She began her career configuring property management and accounting software with end-users for a software development company. It was during this time that customers would frequently ask for custom reports, pulling data from the SQL-based system Amy was helping them configure. Over time, Amy became skilled at getting the custom report specifications from end-users, prior to forwarding those specifications to programmers overseas for quote generation.
As more customers requested custom reports, Amy got even better at generating the specifications, so that customers could begin testing their new reports within weeks, rather than exchanging emails for months on end with programmers, trying to get the correct data to show in the custom report.
Eventually, when the VP of Operations was visiting with the programmers overseas about the time needed to code custom reports, they all mentioned how unclear the specifications files were. “Well, can you give me an example of a GOOD specifications document? Does ANYBODY actually do it well?” She asked. “Amy’s specifications are amazing,” they all said. “She needs to teach everyone else how to do what she does.”
After conquering custom reporting for private sector accounting software, she changed jobs to work for a startup government accounting software company. Again she was exposed to a variety of reporting requirements and the need for custom reporting. It was during her tenure at this next company that she realized how few customers truly understand the scopes and contracts used by software companies. It occurred to her that there were some common pitfalls that most customers succumb to, when agreeing to scopes of work. So this became, by accident, another area in which she developed expertise.
The year-round long hours of startup life began to take their toll, and so in 2022, Amy took a break from IT Project Management and custom reporting to serve as a Microsoft licensing resource at a volume licensing reseller.
Now after taking time to breathe and think, she’s taking new clients on a case-by-case basis—teaching their users and/or IT teams how to submit the best custom report specifications, for the least amount of effort, stress, and cost.
In her spare time, she volunteers with Girl Scouts and the local shelters training dogs prior to adoption.
